The Igbinedion Education Centre was founded by Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion (The Esama of Benin Kingdom) and Lady Cherry Igbinedion The foundation stone of the Igbinedion Education Centre was laid on 15th June 1990 by His Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa CFR, The Oba of Benin Special Guest of Honour Rear Admiral Augustus Aikhomu Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Chairman of the opening Ceremony Colonel Jonathan Tunde Ogbeha Bendel State Military Governor (As he then was) The Royal Visitor to Igbinedion Education Centre His Royal Highness, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, The Alaafin of Oyo, LLD, CFR. When we completed the buildings of this Education Centre, we said, 'Our only dream is that all the studemts who will be admitted to our schools will strive for "Excellence".' We said 'Let them hold high for all to see those fundamentals upon which this great nation Nigeria is built and which have sustained it through the years-law, order, truth, freedom, justice, integrity, decency, honesty and courage.'
At the Igbinedion Education Centre we aim to provide a sound education for children from 3 to 18 years old. Our ultimate responsibility is for the development and welfare of each individual student and we endeavour to achieve this by providing an environment in which understanding, tolerance and friendship are fostered.
The school’s concept of a ‘sound’ education is characterized by our intension to pursue the following academic and personal objectives for all our students.
1. Intellectual and Academic
Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of appropriate knowledge, as defined in the curriculum, and on the development of the students’ cognitive skills including those of analysis, evaluation and synthesis. The stimulation of intellectual curiosity and the cultivation of the rational and critical facilities are regarded as integral to intellectual development.
We place emphasis on consistent curricular guidelines produced by Head of Departments.
2. Emotional
Emotional Development should include a student being positively motivated and gaining self-confidence and an appropriate level of self- esteem. He or she should also be able to cope with criticism and exercise discipline and self- control.
3. Social
A student should show respect and tolerance and an ability to see other people’s points of view. He or she should be responsible and honest towards himself and others, and show evidence of a willingness to share.
4. Cultural
Students are encouraged to develop knowledge, understanding and respect for the customs, moral and aesthetic values of their own cultural environment and also for those cultures which are foreign to them.
Igbinedion School has set out to achieve the following aims for each pupil.
To educate the ‘whole child’ always showing concern for the individuality and uniqueness of each person.
To help each pupil achieve the highest academic standard of which he or she is capable. This is accomplished by employing well qualified staff with small tuition classes of twenty five pupils, thus monitoring closely the individual needs of each pupil.
To develop the personality, character and interest of all pupils so that their responsibility and usefulness as good citizens are enhanced at school, leading to a mature approach as adults..
